Generally the head or the team leaders under whom you work wont check the outfit unless your job is something related to fashion industry. But looking good is important specially when you are going for interview because "First Impression is The Last Impression". What you wear for a interview is very important. It should be formals of course. But the audience which you're going to target comes under picture. If the clothes are well ironed; well dressed; are fitted properly; there are no brand labels stuck to it; then it looks good. Also checks formal shirt with checks tie won't give a good impression. Socks if white won't give a nice impression. If a person wears party wear for interview it won't give a good result if he is stepping in a reputed company for a interview.
Therefore 5 ways to dress:
1. Think about the people in-front of whom you're going to sit for interview:
The interview panel belongs to which company and what specific dress code is followed there should be well known. And according to that the outfits should be purchased. When you're wearing brand new clothes you should see if there is any label stuck to it. If there is it should be removed or it wont give a good impression in interview. Since first impression is the last impression the way you present yourself speaks a lot about you. If your company allows jeans for one particular day then that is good you can wear jeans. But it should fit you. It should not be under or over fitting.
But generally when interview is concerned formals are good option. Dress a little nicer.
2. Be presentable for interview:
Which company or which business line is taking your interview is important because suits will not be suited if the job is at restaurants. Whatever you wear for a interview the shirt should be nicely put in and it should look neat and presentable. If you're neat and your shirt is properly ironed and nicely put in. You will look more presentable then the person who has came to interview with not proper clothes. Even if your outfit is simple it is cool. It is not necessary that whatever you wear should be fancy always. As I gave example of restaurant looking neat and good should be the priority if you're going to greet customers or clients. The suit if you're going to consider it wearing then it should also be neat and well ironed. It wont look good if it is not that well maintained.
3. Look Good:
If you look good and presentable in a interview they will look at you and the panel should want to talk to you. Now don't consider some fancy style to look different that the panel of the interview is paying attention only to the fancy clothes instead of you. If you're looking at your best and speaking at your best you're giving them the best impression so rejecting you for a interview will be having least possible chances. They will have to accept you. Since you have knowledge you are a bit stylish following and maintaining your style. They have to accept. And whatever you wear you should be comfortable in that outfit and if the panel is looking at you instead of being nervous you should be confident on yourself. That gives a Positive impression.
4. Go for the Right Size:
This is very important point because wearing formals loose doesn't give a good impression. Your outfit should not show the lack of intelligence or lack of interest or under confident or nervous. These are all NO NO for the interview. Whenever you're dressing formals if it is of proper fitting with a proper matching combination and not some absurd color's it will give a good impression. Wearing too tight clothes or fit clothes is also not that good. It doesn't give a good impression.

5. Remember these little things:
Even if you're outfit is up to date it is in your size perfectly suited to you. You can loose a chance if these small points are missing.
Women should wear less makeup. Both Men and Women should clean their hair, Should look presentable. There should not be any fancy attire that is killing your good style and your presentable look. Many people go for checks Shirt avoid that. the color of the belt and the shoes should be matching.
